Circle of Moms / Kia Video Series: Helicopter Parenting, Co-Sleeping, & Pajama Glamming

When at a park or while waiting to pick your child up from school or some activity, have you ever found yourself kind of eavesdropping on conversations that other moms are having? Maybe  a few of them talk so loud that everyone can hear. Or, maybe they just happen to be talking about the very subject you’ve had on your mind regarding motherhood or raising kids. I’ve recently had the chance to check out the new Circle of Moms video series in partnership with Kia.

Four mothers get together to talk about issues they’ve come face-to-face with, many of which you might be able to relate to. This is a great way to find out what other moms think without being nosy! The four starring women are:

  • Tia Mowry (actor/author) with a 1-year-old son
  • Diane Mizota (vlogger, tech whiz, pop culture guru), 5-year-old son
  • Stacy Kaiser (psychotherapist, author), 15- and 17-year-old daughters
  • Lizzie Bermudez (reporter, vlogger), 5- and 8-year-old daughters

I actually met Diane at BlogHer last year (who interviewed me a couple of times) and Lizzie at a local luncheon in San Francisco (for an active clothing line). The format was pretty interesting and very casual, in a good way. Here’s a summary of the latest video from Circle of Moms by POPSUGAR:

  • Free Range – Raising Safe & Self-Reliant Children
Will being a ‘helicopter mom’ stunt your child’s ability in learning to cope with future situations? Stacy related the traumatic and slightly embarrassing reaction she had to her daughter’s first day at kindergarten. I don’t hover but I do feel it’s important to guide…a lot.
  • Trips with Tia – Babies in Bed?
Co-sleeping is sometimes a very sensitive subject. For Diane, one friend told her, “Just don’t tell anybody. If it works for your family…” Stacy touched on intimacy concerns but Tia candidly said, “Oh, honey, we find places, okay?” Our experience was similar to that of Stacy’s second daughter – she slept on her own from the beginning and can sleep through most anything, meaning we can too.
  • Car Pool Line – Fashion Tips for Drop Off
Instead of being the mom with the cupcake pajama pants on, Lizzie gives some quick and easy tips. Tinted moisturizer, tinted stain, dry shampoo, spin pins, a jacket, stylish boots, and some big sunglasses took her from sleepy to stylin’ in, literally, two minutes! I love the idea of using tinted products and that dry shampoo is awesome!

At first, it all seemed kind of awkward and unorganized. However, by the last section, I was taking notes. I’m anxious to watch more.

Check out the latest video from Circle of Moms by POPSUGAR for yourself here (it’s only nine minutes):

So what’d you think? Will you be tuning in for the one airing next week?

The ONLY thing I have always done for myself was shower, do my hair, makeup and wear normal clothing. Yes, even after having a baby and even when I feel like crap. I’ve always found that looking like crap made me feel worse so I always took the time to get myself ready every day. I know what you’re thinking, and no, I don’t have help, parents, grandparents, a nanny or anything like that.

No, no! I think that’s fantastic! I don’t have enough energy and I homeschool my daughter so it takes a special occasion for me to get fixed up. I know it would make me feel better about myself but I just haven’t been able to get into a good routine for it.

I could I not love Tia? (Sister Sister fan here!) My drop off fashion is usually the outfit I will be wearing to the gym, which I head to directly after the kids are safe inside school grounds.

Wasn’t that a fun show?! At least the gym clothes look better than pajamas and are ultra sporty!

Tia looks exactly the same!
