Compact, powerful turbo, easy on gas, hugs corners, can accommodate people with long legs, starts at only $19K, and comes in a color called “Red Hot”? Yes, the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze ECO pretty much hooked us right away. With an average of 31 MPG, this little car zips and drives like no one’s business.
Lately, I’ve been seeing several Chevy Cruze cars on the road. And no wonder. This reasonably-priced sedan is a great all-around purchase. Whether you need it for errands, commute, or a family day trip, the Cruze really delivers.
2014 Chevrolet Cruze ECO Review – Down to the Nitty Gritty
It’s not uncommon for me to be overly critical when doing conducting a review. However, the Chevy Cruze almost made me forget to look for faults. Driving became interesting and fun. I loved the sporty fabric dash and glistening chrome rims that infused some youthful, fun energy without cheapening the overall look. Just because I’m 35 doesn’t mean I want tired, old faux wood finishes!
Many cars seem to overdo it when it comes to adding technology. The cleverly laid out instrument cluster was so easy to read and the digital screen was unobtrusive, providing key information without extra fluff. The touchscreen is clear and very responsive. Other controls are a bit harder to make out but key features are at your fingertips. It did take me a while to find the door lock button – why did they move it to the middle? Where the button to pop the trunk is is still a mystery though.
Here Comes the Boom
Great gas mileage, solid ride, good handling, reasonable price, etc. really ranks the Cruze high on my recommendation list. There’s one thing that keeps me from giving this a full two thumbs up. It’s great that the driver seat can slide all the way back for those that need it but, then, room behind that seat becomes non-existent.
Conclusion
For day-to-day use with 2-3 passengers, the 2014 Chevy Cruze ECO is a great compact choice that looks good and comes with an attractive price tag. The ECO version can also save a nice boatload of cash at the gas pump. Small families will really enjoy the versatility of the car and how current it looks!
