A few weeks ago, I received a very unexpected surprise in my inbox. It started with this:
That’s right, it’s an invitation to attend the 2014 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration! The 5th annual Disney Social Media Moms Celebration will be April 10-13, 2014 and, for the first time, it will be at Disneyland in California instead of Walt Disney World in Florida. My family and I couldn’t be more excited as it will be our first time being a part of this special, and highly coveted, event!

Within the ‘mom blogger’ world, no event stirs more excitement and drama than this one. At this unique conference, bloggers can benefit from great speakers and even better networking opportunities. At least that’s what I’ve heard. But, if it’s anything like the amazing experience I had at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration On-the-Road held locally last year, I believe it! Oh, and the bloggers’ families are invited too!
For only a fraction of the cost, families receive up to four 5-day Park Hopper passes to the Disney Parks, 3-night stay at the official Park hotel, several included meals, special activities, and swag galore. By fraction I mean about 20% of what it would cost normally. This year, it will be only be $550 total for our family – one night at the Disneyland hotel is already $450 by itself!
The Other Side of #DisneySMMoms
Sounds awesome, right? Well, with only 200 or so bloggers asked to attend this invite-only event, there’s bound to be some jealously online. Feelings of entitlement, envy, self-pity, and more abound as ugly comments hit the social channels. I admit that it can be hard to read all about the fun but not be a part of it. However, it’s no reason to put others down just because one’s own pride is hurt.
So, this year I decided to completely avoid it all. Since I don’t have a Disney-specific blog and I’m not one of the blogging biggies, I figured that I wouldn’t be invited anyway. There was no reason for feelings of disappointment and I could be honestly happy for those who did get to go. But, then, something surprising happened. It seems like several original invitees had to decline and another round late invites were going out. With the short amount of time left before the event, it made sense that many of these went to those who were in driving distance and who didn’t have to book last-minute airfare. In that round came my invitation.

It doesn’t matter that I was on the ‘runner-up list’ or that it might have only been because of my location to Disneyland. Especially with the tough times we’ve been facing, I’m more than thrilled to get this opportunity and to be able to share it with my family. Congrats on getting invited. I’ve never been and probably won’t ever be invited, but going to Disneyland is great.

I honestly never understood why people get riled up when others are invited to something that they’re not. I’m always genuinely happy for others, but I guess that is just me. ~lol~ But anyways, that is wonderful news! I have never visited either, but I hope to visit them someday. My oldest brother goes to Disney World quite frequently with his granddaughters, and he absolutely loves it there! I look forward to reading about your experience. 🙂
