In trying to come up with a full, detailed review of the 2014 Ford Fiesta Ecoboost SE sedan I found myself with a dilemma on my hands. After testing the compact sedan I could only think of one way to describe it – it’s a good car for a reasonable price. That’s it.
One-week vehicle loan was provided for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
2014 Ford Fiesta Ecoboost SE Review
There was nothing particularly noteworthy about the handling, steering, suspension, turning radius, or ride. It was all okay. The seats were fabric and the interior was simple, which was fine. The manual stick-shift performed as it should. Gas mileage was decent for a car of this size and transmission. Inclines are doable despite the small engine size. The dash display is ordinary.
Even the exterior design is like one huge understatement. When telling Munchkin which car to look for in the parking garage, I said it was the most boring of the boring-est cars. She found it right away. Of course, we happened to have a model that was plain silver with nondescript black fabric. To be fair, we did see a hatchback version in bright yellow and that did make the car look less invisible.
I hate to be so vague but that’s just how it is. We found the 2014 Ford Fiesta to be the best form of average that you can get for $16,000. That’s not a bad thing by any means. It’s just, well, kind of sad. If I had to describe the Fiesta as a participant at a party, it would be a wallflower or Sue Heck (from “The Middle”).
If anything, there are only two features that I can specifically point out that are anything by mediocre. First of all, the cockpit is very narrow and guys may have a hard time squishing their legs together like that all the time when driving. Second, it has pretty ambient lights in the cup holder, above the glove compartment (it reminds Frans of my LED gel nail dryer), and near your feet that you can change. There are your pros and cons right there…
2014 Ford Fiesta Excels at Not Excelling
If you are hoping to find a straight-forward, reliable vehicle for under $20K that you’ll use every day in your daily grind, the 2014 Ford Fiesta might be just what you need. If you want your driving experience to be any more exciting than a flat line, you may need to explore a different model.

Thanks for the honest review, I always appreciate reading your site because I know it will help me shop for the right vehicle
We actually have a Fiesta as our second car. We rarely use it, but when we do, it’s a nice little car.
Oh nice review. We are not a big car fan, I prefer an SUV or truck. I like your honest review!
What a cute little car. I love the lights at the feet!
I’ve never driven a ford. It looks like a great economical first car for kids 😉
Thanks for the honest review. As far as inexpensive cars go, this one sounds nice.
Thanks for being honest. I have never driven a Ford but appreciate the review.
At least there are decent cars in a somewhat reasonable price range. I hate how the ones that I am now drawn to cost about as much as the remainder of my mortgage.
What a fun little car… It is perfect for my nephew who is actually on the market for a new car right now. Thanks so much
wow that has a lot of great bells and whistles. Very roomy too, what a nice drive.
I love the ambient lights! That’s pretty neat, even if it doesn’t have too much purpose.
This is a funny, and honest review. I wish everyone spoke this bluntly about their cars! Lol.
This looks like a great small car. I am in the market for something much larger though to fit my entire young family of five.
Looks like the car for me. I am into those bells and whistles (lights and all). Very, very cool. Gotta check out this car! 🙂
You know what I love about this review? The honesty. I read too many reviews that are all sunshine and daisies. If you can’t find a con, you’re not being honest.
Thanks for the honest review. It actually makes me want to look into the Fiesta. I need a small car that’s good on gas. That’s all I need. Not a roadster.
I love your reviews. I can always count on you to give me the unvarnished truth.
It’s a breath of fresh air to finally see a review with a little honesty in it. Thank you for the honest review 🙂
Well, at least the lights were pretty!! 😉
Sounds like a good car for those just starting out on their 1st car buying life lesson, maybe? As long as they aren’t tall that is!
I am in the process of researching new cars as I would like to buy one very soon. The Ford Fiesta is on my list of maybes. Thanks for sharing your review.
My family’s been thinking about getting a second vehicle. I always look forward to your reviews because they tell a lot of info and give some great perspective.
This car would be too small for myself and my daughters, but it is cute. I really appreciate how honest you are because a car is not some small purchase to be taken lightly.
I love the pretty lights!! Tat would be pretty cool to have.
Would be a great car for me. The leg room issue wouldn’t go over well with Husband, but I prefer compact vehicles when I’m not hauling around the kids.
For 16K, I’d be okay with okay haha. I like the look of the car though. I think this would be great for my teens.
LOL – I love this review. Really one can’t expect much more than average for $16,000 these days. We recently test drove a vehicle I loved and I wanted to go out and buy it right then, but then fully loaded with all the bells and whistles it was almost $40,000 — $16,000 for a car that still gets me from point A to point B is more in my price range 🙂
Sometimes the best feature is just the price tag & that’s what it seems to be here. I know my nephew is approaching driving age & my sister is researching affordable options for him. I do worry with a car this inexpensive that the safety features will be lacking also.
The Fiesta is our 2nd car and it’s perfect for me since I am constantly running around in a 20 mile radius of my home. Mine is a bright red, though. 🙂
Thank you for such an honest review. Boring can be good when you’re looking simply for reliability, but I like more flair to my ride.
This sounds like it would be prefect for my son’s first car.
This is such a cute car! I used to hate Fords, but they aren’t really bad vehicles. Even my oldest brother who has worked at Toyota for YEARS loves, loves Ford vehicles. 🙂
I just drove this car and I love it. Such a fun car.
I had a Ford Fiesta a long time ago. It looks like they have improved. But it just a basic commuter car.
