It’s starting to warm up here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Shorts and T-shirts have been coming out, people are out biking and running, and kids are already playing in pools. As we gear up to spending more time outdoors under that California sun, it’s also time to start stocking up on the sun protection.
UV damage affects those of all complexions but after seeing what it can do to my very light European husband, I prefer to stay on the safe side when it comes protecting our skin. You may be anxious to get some color in that winter-faded skin of yours but don’t risk the sun damage!
5 Tips to Protect Your Skin from the Sun
Here are five tips to keep in mind when enjoying that springtime weather:
- UV rays are strongest from 10am to 4pm. Limit time spent in direct sunlight during these times and seek shade.
- Apply sun protection about 20 minutes before going in the sun. Use at least 30 SPF.
- Reapply sun protection every couple of hours or after swimming or sweating.
- Even if your makeup has SPF protection in it, an additional layer of standalone sun lotion will provide better protection.
- Don’t be fooled by cloudy days as the UV rays can penetrate and still cause sun damage.
If you do happen to get sunburned, make sure to use Aloe Vera gel to cool the skin and keep moisturized to lessen peeling.
Stocking Up on Sun Protection
Sadly, if you’ve ever had to shop any of the sun protection items, much of that SPF goodness comes at a price. Fortunately, CVS Brand products have you covered. You can now get several products with ingredients and formulas comparable to top name brands, but at a lower price. Same quality for less? Yes, please! After seeing some samples in my living room, one of my sisters even said, “I didn’t know CVS carried these. Let me know how you like them.”
When I visited our local CVS store to scope out the selection, I was blown away. They had everything from lotions and sprays, to products for kids and sensitive skin. The CVS Brand products were displayed right next to the branded equivalent items from Neutrogena, Banana Boat, and Coppertone. The packaging even looked similar. This made it super easy to compare the ingredients and the prices.
As you can see, the formula of the CVS Brand products is almost the same as the Neutrogena lotion we normally use.
Protect Your Skin with CVS Brand Products
So, before you head out in your springtime garb, make sure you have all the sun protection you need. With the increase in skin cancer cases, no tan is worth the risk. Plus, CVS is ready to help you get all your healthy springtime essentials for less.

Awesome, thanks! I was about to go looking for some new sunscreen since I”m heading to Las Vegas tomorrow night and I’m pretty sure we’ll spend most of the time on the lake (as well as my birthday trip in August that will be either in Mexico or Dominican Republic)!
