It is certainly an exciting time when you engaged. The relationship building up to that time is unique to each couple but just as special. It was tough for me to commit unless I first met my husband’s family overseas. After a fantastic visit I finally said ‘yes’. As we began shopping for rings we found another difference in culture arose.
Growing up in the States, I thought it was just a given that all women got diamond engagement rings. My mom had one, all my sisters did too, and every other woman I knew got a diamond on either their engagement or wedding ring. Little did I know that was not the standard in every other country around the world.
Apparently, it was much more common in my to-be-husband’s part of the world to have a regular band for both parties. It’s not that it was unthought of to wear diamonds but just not the norm for wedding rings. Most were quite happy to have a plain band with their spouse’s name engraved on the inside. Some would even boast about how cheap they could get their rings for, paying less than $200 for both rings. Spending more on designer engagement rings was looked upon as excessive and unnecessary, no matter the size of the gem.
The loving fiancé I had bought me the ring I wanted, with a modest diamond. It was so pretty that I even got compliments on the other side of the ocean. To this day I will casually glance down to admire my ring. The one my husband wears is an attractive band with my name in it. Sweet, right?
Now to start working on getting an eternity ring, like the ones at Since1910.com . . .

Yes, you need to get him thinking about that future….
Haha, no worries. I already got him to read and approve the post so he can already start thinking about it 🙂
