For our trip to North Lake Tahoe, I reserved a room at the Larkspur Hotel, Truckee-Tahoe using a LivingSocial deal. For $25 more we were able to bring our dog. The only thing that worried me was that a ‘pet-friendly hotel’ meant ‘dirty’. That was not the case at all!
Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and a bottle of wine that was included with the deal we used. I thought it was cute how they even had a welcoming package for those with dogs. It included a new water bowl, a dog-waste dispenser with a full roll of bags, and a toy rope (Speckles favorite).
The hotel was easy to find yet hard at the same time. After we checked-in at the front desk, we got in the car and tried to follow the map to our room. Not realizing how small the establishment was, we actually drove around the entire building before parking in the space we were just in.
The rooms are kind of old but clean. I didn’t even get that ‘icky’ feeling when stepping on the carpet accidentally (I ALWAYS use slippers in hotel rooms because otherwise it’s be gross). Though pets are allowed there were doggie bag dispensers near every entrance and outside areas were easily accessible. The room we stayed in was spacious enough for our luggage, the dog, and the three bicycles we brought up with us. I had packed our swimming gear but the snow from the two days before our stay pretty much ended their pool/spa season. Most hotels are not completely devoid of noise but I felt that it was pretty quiet most of the time. We took advantage of the dvd player and watched a couple of movies that we brought along on our trip. The beds and pillows were just right.
The best part? The breakfast. It was not extravagant but so much better than those ‘continental’ breakfasts. The hot dishes included country potatoes, scrambled eggs, and either bacon or sausage. You could then toast bread, cinnamon raisin bread, a waffle, french toast, or a biscuit with all the typical toppings. Cold cereal and hot oatmeal (instant) were also available. I was bummed their orange juice was out of stock but that just gave me another excuse to drink more hot chocolate.
Overall, my family and I were pleased with the hotel. Though we got a ‘deal’ for $99/weeknight and $109/weekend night, I don’t think it would be reasonable to pay any more than that. Since that price was advertised as 48% off we were really expecting some luxury stay and this was far from that. Still, we’d probably stay here again if we brought Speckles (our dog) and if we could get a good price with our AAA discount.

Considering that it’s not completely modernized, I probably wouldn’t pay more than that either, but it’s really nice to know that it’s clean in spite of the fact it’s a pet hotel. Great review!
