Marvel’s The Avengers

by TerriAnn

Here’s the review that many have been looking forward to!

There is so much on the line with the making and release of Marvel’s The Avengers movie. Not only was Joss Wheden combining some of the most well-established characters in comic history into one blockbuster film, but he also had a star-studded cast to match in fame. After having a bit of a marathon of the previous films (Hulk, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America) I wondered if they could live up to the hype and anticipation that has been building.

Well, this movie was AWESOME!

The basic plot (don’t worry, I won’t include spoilers) is that Loki, the step-brother of Thor, is bent on revenge and world-domination. He’ll have to go through the secret initiative of S.H.I.E.L.D., aka The Avengers, first though. That is, of course, if they don’t self-destruct first. The storyline was simple but solid. Half-way through the movie I had to crack my neck and stretch since I found myself on the edge of my seat and tense from anticipation from start to finish. I don’t remember the last time I had such a reaction to a film!

Despite the large cast, each character was developed quite well and transitions between scenes were smooth. The story is quick-moving but still easy to follow. There were a few lines that I couldn’t hear over the laughter or clapping of the audience. That just goes to show how deeply each and every viewer in attendance was immersed in the movie.

As for objectionable parts, the only thing that might steer people away from the movie is the violence. While it is not gruesome or horribly graphic, there is some blood and one scene (with the eye) was kind of gross to me even though not directly shown. In terms of ‘action’ films, it is very mild. Let’s just say that if you watched ANY of the Marvel movies before this, this one is very tame.

Do not think that this movie is just for guys or die-hard fans. Everyone walking out of the screening had a huge grin on their face. Our group of moms could not stop chatting about the well-choreographed action, laugh-out-loud (LOL) humor, and subtle idiosyncrasies that made the movie a whole lot of fun. Oh, and be prepared to shed a tear or two as well. While there are a few parts that may be a bit too intense for younger viewers, I felt they did a really good job in making this a film one the family can enjoy together. In fact, I can’t wait to go again with my husband and daughter to see it on May 4th in 3D!

I watched a pre-screening as part of a full expense paid trip courtesy of Marvel/Disney. All thoughts expressed are 100% my honest opinion.

You got me all excited about this movie now. I love SciFi and hero movies, and I loved Thor. I have been anticipating Avengers for a while now but I never get my hopes up. Good to hear good reviews from another women. LOL.

Well, it was really a great movie! I tried not to give anything good away but let’s just say that Hulk will be another of your faves by the end of the movie 😛 Yep, they really tried to make it appeal to a wider audience and I think they succeeded on that front very well.

Can’t wait for the movie!! I didn’t get to see “Iron Man 2” or “Thor” on the big screen. Nor have I rented them, but I was about to from Netflix. When I heard on the radio last week that Dish Network, which is what I have was going to be showing “Iron Man 2, “Thor”, and “Captain America” back to back, to get everyone ready for this Friday. So I set my DVR and recorded them all. The only one left I have to watch is “Thor.” Then I will be set to see “The Avengers!!!”

So were you able to watch them? Those three really set the stage for the movie so you’ll enjoy it a lot more having those storylines under your belt. I heard you’re going tomorrow – tell me how you like it 🙂

Yes, I was able to watch all the movies before we went to see “The Avengers.” If was very exciting and funny. Loved it when the Hulk used Loki as a toy bat. Your Mom wants to see it again. She missed that part because of having to used the bathroom. So, will we be seeing each other Saturday evening? Hope we get a chance to talk about your trip.

Fantastic. We were finally able to see it in 3D yesterday and that was Munchkin’s favorite part. Did you hear his slightly audible sigh afterwards? I’ll see you in a couple of days 🙂
