Spy Fox in Dry Cereal [iOS]

by TerriAnn

Another oldie but goodie has made its way to the iPhone/iPod/iPad platform, though it’s best played on the bigger display of the iPad. Spy Fox has joined the crew of other Humongous characters being introduced to this new generation in his adventure , Spy Fox in “Dry Cereal”.

The secret agent known as Spy Fox is on the case. William the Kid had captured all of the world’s dairy cows and is going to force everyone to use goat’s milk! I’m all for a nice bit of feta in a greek salad but with cereal? Eiuw! With his spy intelligence, Monkey Penny, and his blueprint-eating gadget guy, Dr. Quack, Spy Fox looks to unravel the case. Full of corny wit and larger than life animated characters, this is the perfect game kids in the 8-11 range.*

Your child must use their problem-solving abilities to figure out where to go and which spy gear to use. They can question different suspects, put together clues, play a game of “Go Fish” for using trinkets, or even dance to a tango or two to place a ‘bug’ on the baddies. Don’t forget to check your jacket pocket for all the items you have available to use. As all games by this developer, you can touch various items on the screen for surprise animations.

The prompts of which way to go are not as apparent in this game, though. There were a few times we had to look up an online guide/walkthrough when stuck. Just keep in mind you have to click the item THEN click the character or place you want to use it, even it seemingly doesn’t respond.

There is no violence or foul language. There are some sarcastic jokes and references to ‘butts’ and such, yet those kinds of puns do appeal to older kids. It had my daughter cracking up. The best part is that the game changes just a bit each time you play, keeping it fresh and something your child will want to play. At $4.99 I do feel that it’s a bit expensive for an app of this sort.

Spy Fox in “Dry Cereal” is a great app that your child will want to play over and over, just like mine did.

*Players ages 5-8 might like Freddi Fish a bit better.
