As the prices go higher, the quality drops. Unfortunately this has been true of many items lately. Frozen pizza has even been affected in that many taste like plastic or nothing at all.

So what should you look for then? To prevent it from tasting synthetic is to buy something that has as little processed ingredients as possible. I’m sure you’ve seen the commercial with the lady at the grocery store asking various questions. Each time, another pizza-holding freezer drops out of the race until one is left standing. The winning contender is Freschetta.

So have I tried it? Yes. It’s pretty good. It has real cheese, meat, sauce, naturally rising dough, and the taste is nice. We really like the Pepperoni ‘Naturally Rising’ one and it was tasty. Our local store didn’t carry the other varieties but I would to try the 4-meat or the Canadian bacon & pineapple combination. There is also Freschetta FlatBread pizza. Now, my family and I are not really into the thin, cracker-type dough so we were not too fond of it. But if you do like that crisp crust, they have four different varieties in Zesty Italian, Roasted Garlic and Spinach, Pepperoni or 5-Cheese. I may like to try the Roasted Garlic one though – you can never have enough garlic!

Of course, frozen pizza will never top fresh-baked pizza (especially if you’ve tried it by a real Italian whose family used to run a pizza restaurant like I have). But when you’re dead tired and just don’t have the time or energy to whip up dinner from scratch, this is a fast and inexpensive alternative. Still hesitant to try it? Freschetta has a coupon for $1 off so just time it right when your local grocery store has a sale and it will be more than worth it to try for yourself and see if your family enjoys it.
