“Huh?” Yes, that’s pretty much the reaction of local friends and my side of the family too.
In the Dutch culture, the 12-1/2 year wedding anniversary is a huge deal. While some might mark their tenth anniversary as an important milestone here, ย it’s the 12-1/2 anniversary ย (half of 25) that brings on theย congratulationsย and celebration back in the Netherlands aka Holland. Don’t believe me? Check out the PRE-PRINTED card my parents-in-law sent us:
So happy anniversary to my husband of 12-1/2 years ๐ Aren’t international customs fun?

Thank you! We plan on it!
We have that in DK too, I remember having a party for my parents’ 12 1/2. Congratulations!
No way, really? When Frans ‘googled’ 12-1/2 it only brought up Dutch pages/references. Did you celebrate yours? BTW, thanks ๐
We call it the Copper Anniversary in Denmark. We didn’t celebrate it over here, but I did remember when it was.
So funny! They call it ‘copper’ over there too. So many similarities – no wonder everyone gets the two countries mixed up ๐
I learned something new today :). Happy 12.5th anniversary.
Thank you! Cool how customs are different, right?
I learned something new today! Totally cool. Happy belated 12 1/2!
