No kid, or animal-lover of any age, should be without the new National Geographic Animal Encyclopedia. This has to be the coolest book from NGK! It’s a fabulous combination of stunning photos, interesting facts, and a whole bunch of other stuff that kids like – all in one 308-page hardcover book! How do I know? Because my daughter is addicted to it!
When looking at the photo I took below, Munchkin exclaimed, “Hey! I haven’t seen that page yet!” Apparently, she’s been taking her time going through this encyclopedia page-by-page, just sucking in all the animal-related facts she can. It’s pretty funny to watch her as she reads too. She’ll say, “Eiuw!” with a smirk and then lets out a mischievous giggle as she shares with me the fact that she just learned.
I was most impressed by the book’s layout. There’s a good mix of photos and facts and it’s all presented in a clear and eye-catching manner. Instead of overwhelming the child, it encourages them to research even more and look deeper into species they hadn’t previous heard of. This is definitely something you’ll want to add to the family’s book collection for easy reference and maybe even some family-time trivia. After taking a look at it yourself, just make sure you still remember to share it with your child(ren).

I have thought about getting my daughter books like these, she’s really into animals and is always looking up weird animal facts on her iphone!
Oh, NGK are wonderful for that. That’s the only magazine subscription we have for our daughter and she devours each new issue. Hmm, I should ask her what iPad apps she likes – she has one she uses for bugs and another for birds. I’ll let you know – I’m sure your DD will enjoy them too!
These kinds of books are always my favorite. My daughter’s too. The boys like comic books but they’ll sit and look at these too from time to time.
Mine likes this AND comic books 🙂
