Ahnu Truckee Hiking Boots / Shoes for Women & Menβ¦
When we went to Yosemite this past December, I really missed not having good hiking shoes. Sneakers and fuzzy boots just did not cut it when trying to climb up slippery rocks near waterfalls. My husband was loving the new pair of hiking boots I had gotten for him and I was kind of jealous. After a full day of walking along the valley floor, his feet were almost just as happy at the end of the day as they were at the beginning. Same thing happened in Tahoe last month. The shoes I had on just could not get any traction on the icy driveway to our rental cabin. Yet, my husband walked around as if it was no big deal.
Soon after those trips, I was vying for some hiking shoes of my own. Too bad most hiking boots for women are either too fuzzy, too funky, or straight-up manly. I was pretty stoked when I was contacted to try some boots by Ahnu, a company focusing on outdoor footwear. After looking at their styles, I decided on Womens’ Truckee. I liked the fact that the style was versatile and could work with casual clothes or even under jeans.
The first thing I noticed was how light this pair of hiking boots was. If you’ve ever shopped around for some, you’d know that many feel like they’re weighted with cement! The colors are a dark olive and purple. These compliment each other well and are much cuter than as pictured on the site. My favorite feature is the quilted detail in the back – just the perfect touch of femininity!
I ordered my shoes in a size 8-1/2 and they were true to size. I was surprised by how nicely the right shoe fit but the left one needed to be loosened a bit. Lacing up the shoes is quick and easy since the upper portions consists of hooks instead of holes. I did find that I had to keep messing with the laces as I was breaking in the boots. Too tight was obviously not comfortable and too loose would make the laces basically fall off the hooks. Plus, I only had ankle socks on hand. For a nice, secure fit I’d recommend wearing leggings or long socks with them instead.
We weren’t able to go on any hiking excusions recently so I had to base my review off general wear. These boots were comfortable but were obviously designed for a specific use. The flexible soles conform to the surface you’re walking on and have great support when taking heavy steps or putting extra weight on your feet on uneven surfaces. I wore these when doing errands and the support areas did not match up, though this was expected.
These are definitely cold weather shoes! We had some warm temperatures and my feet and calves got mighty toasty. No worries, I’m sure I’m going to appreciate the good insulation and waterproof material since we just got in a wet storm-front. The boot construction is made to ensure a dry fit as even the tongue is securely connected. Plus, the traction on these things is fantastic! Crazy California weather – it’s like every day is a different season!
The Ahnu Truckee hiking boots for women are great for all outdoor activities. Whether hiking on trails, adventuring in forests, climbing rocks, trudging through snow, or wading through heavily-puddled streets, these shoes are up to the challenge. Speaking of challenges, I think a nice hiking trip to Muir Woods and up Mount Tamalpais are in order. Then, I can really put these babies to good use!

I like the look of those boots. Very nice.
Not too shabby, right?
I like that the boots don’t look clunky. Also, it’s hard to find knee socks these days!
Haha, very true!
It’s actually kinda good to know that they work exactly as intended rather than being a cross-over shoe. They’re attractive too.
That’s a good way of wording it. No wonder why you’re the queen π
I really like these! We love to go hiking so good boots are a must.
So true. Sneakers just don’t cut it!
I need a new pair of hiking boots… we hike a lot in the Smoky Mts. and these look perfect, especially during the fall and winter.
Hiking in the Smoky Mountains? That sounds like so much fun!
I like these!
These look comfy
Wow, looks like you guys had so much fun. I so want to go out and play in the snow, but so far no snow here in TN this winter. Just a few snowflakes but nothing accumulated. These boots look awesome for the snow. I love the quilting on the boot too.
It’s great living in California since we can have beaches in one part and snow in another π
Those look very comfortable…and durable!
Oh those are some super cute boots!!!
These look great! I need a new pair of hiking boots for when we go on this massive camping trip this summer.
Oh, wow, you’re a brave woman. I hope you have a fantastic time – I know your boys will π
I really needed a new pair of boots this winter, but since we thought we would have already had our home sold and moved to Texas I held off buying them. Here we are in South Dakota, with a foot of snow outside….guess I could have used a pair of these π !
I completely understand why you held off. The snow didn’t last long, though, did it?
Oooo — I’m going to show these to my mom. They hike every year and I bet could use these!
Really? These seem like they’re really well-made. Hiking is NOT fun in uncomfortable shoes!
Those are very nice!
They really are even though they are ‘hiking’ boots, which are generally plain ugly.
Very nice boots!
Thank you – I was surprised how much cuter they were when I got them.
Oh those boots look amazing!
I can’t wait to really do some serious hiking with them this spring!
They look so comfy & Whoa love the purple in them π
I love the purple & green. They’re feminine without being girly.
Those look like some nice hiking boots!
They are. I need to really break them on a hike up Mt. Tam or in Muir Woods.
have you had a chance to really break them in? I am doing a 5 day back packer and torn on what boots I want. I love the look of these though I’d be nervous about the mid-calf. I need good ankle support as there will be a bit of a rock climb involved around the summit. Everything I pick up is chunky and heavy. Please let me know now that you’ve had them a bit. Thanks.
I haven’t had the chance to break them, but I can tell you a few things to help you decide. First of all, the black section is all soft and flexible. Also, you’d need to have them over some leggings or pants and have to tie them fairly tight to prevent the laces from falling off. I think this is good for a lot of walking but I don’t know if I’d recommend them for heavy climbing. Sorry, I hope this helps a little.
