My Daughter + Bicycle Fall + Asphalt Face Plant, Written w/ Her Permission & Approvalβ¦
This past Saturday my husband and I were exhausted. Despite the beautiful weather outside, we needed to get some extra sleep and try to recharge. We felt HORRIBLE for our daughter though. To make it up to her, we decided to take advantage of whatever sunlight was left and go for a family bike ride. We dusted off the bicycles, pumped up the tires, and even prepped Speckles (our dog) to come along. It was such a nice outing!
Since Speckles pooped out after just a few blocks, we had to go back to the house to drop her off. After grabbing a few bottles of water, we set off for another ride. Soon after we got back on the road, my daughter got super shaky and fell off her bike. I wasn’t far behind her and saw it happening in slow motion. It was a nasty fall with her landing on her hand, elbow, and face. She also got a nosebleed at the same time. The only thing we had to catch the blood was a sweatshirt I had in my bag. My poor Munchkin!
As you can imagine, it was quite shocking and painful for her. Not only did she have several cuts and scrapes but the asphalt left a good amount of dirt in her wounds. It was fortunate that we were right outside our place but it still took a good hour to clean her up. The bathroom counter was full of antiseptic spray, iodine, gauze pads, cotton swabs, and antibiotic ointment. As I covered my daughter in adhesive bandages, my husband went to treat and wash all the bloodied clothes. Munchkin ended up going to bed early that night as the whole ordeal wore her out (us too).
The only thing that really made her upset was that her helmet didn’t prevent her face from being hurt. She said, “This helmet doesn’t do anything!” I told her that she’s not supposed to use her face to stop a fall but next time we’ll probably have to give her a full-face motorcycle helmet.
It’s been a few days since ‘the fall’ and she’s healingΒ surprisinglyΒ fast. She still complains of some neck pain so we’re watching her closely in case it’s bad whiplash. The wounds have closed up but still look pretty nasty. We keep trying to assure her that everyone has had some kind of bad fall or injury and for her not beΒ embarrassed. She’s such a trooper!
What was your major accident / injury when you were younger?

Poor girl! My son took a nasty fall last month {well, my father in law accidentally tripped him- and then fell on him} and it was pretty bad. Glad her injuries are healing quickly!
Oh no! I hope she feels better soon!
Ouch!!! I had something similar happen to me and it was baaad. But I was doing something stupid. Hope her neck is okay!
Oh no! Poor thing! That Asphalt is mean!
That just hurts my heart for her! I’m glad you are already seeing it heal though, but what a poor little sweetie!
OMG I hope she is healing and not too much in pain anymore. Poor thing.
Oh my goodness!!! Poor baby! I am glad it’s healing quickly, at least.
Oh no! π I hit asphalt as a kid chasing my Gram’s dog, was rough!
Oh no. She got banged up pretty badly. Poor little gal.
So sorry :(. I think everyone usually has one good/bad bicycle accident in their young life.
π I actually fell from a bicycle and gashed my head pretty bad. The plus of the whole accident was meeting my Hubs…and the rest , as they say, is history π
OUCH! That looks like she really took a terrible fall. I hope she feels better soon!
Ouch! so glad that she is starting to heal! I took a nasty fall on my bike several times as a kid, scraped knees and elbows, I think I still have some asphalt in my knee from one particularly bad fall, ugh I know how painful it is!
Oh my! I’m glad she’s okay. Mine was actually as an adult, when I tripped going up a curb, I bashed my chin on the concrete. I scraped myself up pretty badly.
Aww, poor thing
Poor baby! That hurts just looking at it.
Oh no! Gus and I Took a spill together on Easter Sunday. He’s healed and I’m getting there.
OUCH, poor kiddo and her adorable freckled face
Bless her heart! The same thing happened to me when I was a young girl… my face was such a mess.
Oh poor baby, that must have been one nasty fall. I was pretty rugged as a little girl and have the scars from numerous scrapes to prove it!
Oh no! Sorry she has such bad boo boos but good to hear she’s healing well. Yeah a full helmet and rubber suit for next time she goes biking π My son has taken a few falls, bangs and scraps during his brief 4 years of life.
Oh no! I’m so sorry. I’m glad she’s healing well!
Aww, I’m a million times sorry for her that she took a nasty spill like that one. π
Mine was knees. I rollerskated on the sidewalks all of the time and my knees always had scabs on them. You can barely see them, but I still have scars from them. They were def. a part of my childhood. π
Oh my goodness.. poor girl! π
Oh yikes! I’m glad she’s ok and hrmm. . my biggest accident was getting my ankle caught in my dad’s bike wheel when I was sitting behind him. Not fun.
Going down hill on a bike and it got away from me and I ended up looking like her. Tell her its OK we have all done it at least once. In the meantime if you have time come and stop by my WW linky at mommiespov.com/wordless-wednesday-family/
Awe.. I hope she heals up quickly!
Ouchie! My daughter seems to get hurt weekly so I’m used to seeing blood from her at this point :/
Awww poor girl! I hope she’s feeling better!
OWWIEE!! Poor thing. π When I was little I tripped on the pavement and skinned my knee really badly and it got infected. The pictures of her scrapes make me reflectively cringe because I remember how much that hurts! Feel better soon!
OH ouchies!!!!! What a good sport, though!
Oh poor thing! I agree that we have all been there.
Poor thing! I hope she is feeling better!
Oh my gosh ouch ouch ouch!!
I didn’t really have anything major that was an accident. I did break a foot by just stepping funny into a little dip in the ground though, and we didn’t know it was broken for several days, lol. Oops!
Awww, poor thing! Hope she feels better soon!
I had two bad scrapes as a child. The first was when I was playing kickball in our driveway and tripped over the ball. I skidded on my face. I had a scab from my chin all the way up to my forehead.
The second time I was rollerskating down a hill (pre-shinguards) and didn’t know quite how to stop. I put my toe down and stopped too quickly and slid down the hill on my knees and palms. My mom was picking gravel out of my body for weeks after that!!
Aw! Poor kiddo. I’m glad she’s feeling better!
Poor Kid. I’d be aggravated with that helmet if I were her too.
Awe Bless her heart!
Poor thing, my sister had two such incident’s when she was young with her bike.
Ouch! My son had a similar scrape on his nose the day before picture day at school one year.
Oh, my — poor baby! π
