I received this device as a Verizon #VZWBuzz Lifestyle Ambassador to tech out my home. It was completely my own choice to share how we spy, ahem, I mean check on our dog.
Ever wonder what your kids and/or pets do when you’re not home? Well, we do. Ever since Speckles’ highlighter incident, we’ve been leery about letting her loose when we leave the house. So, it was kind of fun to set up our Belkin ‘spy gear’ to find out what exactly she does when she’s by herself.
What Really Happens?
The first time we used the Belkin NetCam HD was when we went to visit some family. In between conversation and munchies, my husband would fire up the Belkin app on his phone and check in on our pup. Frans had already received a few email notifications that movement was detected but didn’t know what we’d find. Fortunately, we only saw Speckles getting comfy in her bed and putting her head up to see what was going on every once in a while.
Spy Cam – Caught in the Act
Another time, when we were just returning home after a couple hours in the evening, we recorded some video of her. Having the infrared mode makes it easy to see even if it’s dark. It was so cute to see her reaction to hearing our footsteps, unlocking the door, and finally opening it 🙂 Too bad we didn’t have this NetCam when our pup liked going into the recycling bin and shredding paper scraps when by herself. It is possible to hear sounds as well but we didn’t have that option turned on when recording these.
Parent Approval
So far, Speckles has been doing really well. Pretty soon, we’ll be moving to another apartment and we’ll likely take down her baby fence. We’re still a bit nervous about how our house will be after she has free reign in it but at least we can monitor from afar.

I like that it easy to connect with your phone and check in. A product like this can be really useful to check in on a pet while your away or just to make sure your home is safe. Or yes catch a destructive act in action. LOL
This seems like a really cool product. The connectivity would be a key function for me. Great post.
I love that you get a notification when it detects motion!
From the time my girls were babies I always wanted to get “spy cams” in my house. Not to “spy” on them but so I wouldn’t miss all the cute, silly and mischievous things they would do. They grow up so fast and it’s hard to remember everything they used to do and get into.
