Shortly before attending the Disney Frozen premiere, I had the chance to interview Kristen Bell who voices the main character of the movie, Anna. Kristen was a ton of fun and very laid back. I thought it was kind of cute how she climbed over the leather sofa in her simple red heels to get to her seat.
Kristen Bell Interview Highlights
Here are a few highlights from the interview:
- She’s wanted to be in a Disney animated feature since she was 4-5 years old.
- She auditioned for Tangled but was told that she would, instead, be a perfect fit for a project Chris Buck was going to work on called “The Snow Queen”.
- Studying music in college coupled with her operatic training as a child, Kristen loved musical theater and couldn’t wait to be a part of a musical again.
- She was especially interested as Bobby and Kristen Lopez were writing the music, two people she feels have modernized musical theater.
- The story went through many changes but Kristen knew she wanted Anna to be what the type of character she’d want to see on screen when she was little
- “. . . someone who talks too much and too fast. Someone who puts her foot in her mouth and is goofy, but really kind of likes people and being social and being positive.”
- She had a lot opinions and pushed to add humor and goofiness to Anna.
- Jen Lee and Chris Buck, the directors, let Kristen improve A LOT interested in letting me just talk into a microphone, and I, after we’d record the scenes that, you know, had been through all the studio notes and had been approved by everybody.
- Her favorite scene in the movie is the sequence for “Let It Go”
- It was intimidating to sing with Idina Mendel, who Kristen calls the ‘best singer currently on the planet’ and is a ‘dreamboat’.
- She briefly shared her fondness of Veronica Mars but we needed to stay on-topic.
- Her daughter hasn’t yet seen the movie since she’s still in ‘blob zone’ but Kristen does sing many of the movie’s songs to her and she seems to like it.
As a side note, Kristen also used her interview time to share with us something she’s quite passionate about, This Bar Saves Lives. For every bar purchased, a life-saving nutritional packet is donated to a child in need via Plumpy Nut. These can be purchased online and in some select places in Southern California. A non-nut version is in the works.

I was invited on an all-expense paid media trip as a guest of Disney and in honor of the upcoming FROZEN movie. All opinions are my own.

Great post! I also thought she was so cute climbing over the chair like that! She’s so perfect to play Anna.
