No matter where you’re from or where you’re going to, road traffic and congestion are a pain everywhere! Yesterday, one of Munchkin’s friends came over to swim. However, despite being only 5-8 miles away, it took her aunt almost an hour to drive here because of the horrible traffic! How sad to have to waste all that time, frustration, and gas!
i-ROAD ‘Driving’ the Future of Transportation
Toyota has been working on a new project that’s, well, pretty stinkin’ cool. I’d like to introduce you to the breakthrough concept and vehicle that will change the way we get from place to another. It’s itty-bitty, it’s electric, and it’s going to make our lives sooooo much easier – meet i-ROAD!
Isn’t this awesome?! I’ve seen some similar designs (such as the Dutch one a few years back) but this one is much more than a quirky gadget and it’s electric! I love the idea of being able reserve one on a need-to-use basis in key spots for errands, short trips, or even while on vacation. The whole integration with mobile devices is just sheer genius, if I must say so myself. Plus, it looks like some crazy good fun. I can’t wait until this really goes mainstream!
There was a test drive event featuring these 2-passenger cuties earlier this month in Toyota City, Japan, showcasing the of real-world application of i-ROAD’s technology. The next test drive event will be later this year in Grenoble, France if you fancy a look and demo. How can you watch this and not want to try it for yourself?!
i-ROAD combined with the Next Generation Urban Traffic System could revolutionize big cities like San Francisco. With a lot of tourists, traffic on highways and city streets, exorbitantly-priced parking if there’s any at all, and sub-par public transport, we really need something like this. With the i-ROAD vehicles being electric, it can also help ease the crazy costs of gas here and the increasing air pollution. I wonder if it will be able to handle those SF hills…
What’s your take on this whole new way to getting from point A to point B?
