The Muppets are back again, again. This time, they are on a world tour. Doing what though?
Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid, Dublin and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon, and Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard.
Going into the theater, I didn’t really have any expectations. Well I did have one, sort of. I’ve never really been a fan of the Muppets chaos or humor. With so much excitement surrounding this latest installment, I thought may, just maybe, I’d finally ‘get it’.
Muppets Most Wanted Review
Unfortunately, I didn’t. Muppets Most Wanted did have some funny bits and there was s solid storyline. However, to me, those just made the movie bearable at best. The music was upbeat but forgettable, literally. As we walked back to our car, we tried to remember the tune and some lyrics from “I’m Number One” but all three of us drew a blank. And that song was playing for the second time as we exited the theater.
At least the cameos were spot-on, as always. Tina Fey and Rick Gervais did fabulous work and it was fun seeing people like Tom Hiddleston, Lady Gaga, and Sean Combs. The duet with Ms. Piggy and Celine Dion was a bit painful as the varying pitch of their voices conflicted.
If you’re a Muppets fan, you’ll love the overload of crazy and the dry, corny humor. Others watching the movie with us were loving it, especially the family that were all dressed up with Kermit collars, shirts, and hats. You’ll also enjoy these printable activity sheets:
If you’re not a fan, well, I hope you have a good time with the Monsters University short shown before the feature film (Party Central, featuring the gang and Squishy’s totally awesome mom).
