As my daughter gets older, it gets even harder to keep her mentally busy, especially during the summer. The temptation to just let her mind melt from video games and television is too strong. So, I need to proactively search out for activities to keep her mentally engaged and physically active.
Galileo Camps for Kids Pre-K to 8th Grade
While we won’t be participating this year, one summer camp was especially fun for her – Galileo Summer Quest. Galileo camps offer fantastic programs and my daughter enjoyed both the Chefology and the Go Kart-building sessions.
It was really there that she gained some confidence in doing things on her own and found out that she was capable of doing quite a lot when she had the tools and support needed. It’s also nice for a homeschooled child to participate in the themed days like crazy hair and 80’s (which is weird because they have no idea about that decade). Who knows, maybe we will sign up for a week or two…
There are two programs held at each Bay Area location: Camp Galileo for grades Pre-K to 5th and Summer Quest for grades going into 5th to 8th. Camp Galileo is broken into three age groups to nurture their learning and creativity in a healthy environment. Galileo Summer Quest has 17 majors to choose from this year and they look seriously fun (hey, even I want to try the 3D Design and Printing):

I have toyed with the idea of sending my son to camp since that would be a great way to learn life skills and build friendships. However, I’m not sure if he’s quite ready for something like that. He’s a total homebody. 🙂
Mine is too so it was nice to see her feel confident enough in that environment to really grow.
Now that is a summer camp! Wow, those choices are amazing. I wish we had something like that around here, but my boys will just have to settle for being trapped in a pop-up camper with their mom.
Haha – I know they’ll love it. You always plan fun things for them. Hey, I’d want to join you on your road trip if I could!
This sounds like a great camp for kids, summer camp is something every kid should experience.
