School is starting soon and with it will come new challenges. Especially as children reach the higher grades, academics become more challenging for both the kids and the parents that struggle to help them.

When my daughter entered middle school, I thought that it would be easier since she would be able to do more on her own. Actually, the exact opposite happened. She got easily distracted, would procrastinate, and had a required more one-on-one time to walk her through each step since she didn’t have the drive to figure it out herself. It’s been tough trying to meet her needs yet still survive through the school year without wearing each other down.

Munchkin will start 8th grade on Monday. We’ve already been preparing her the past few weeks by cutting down her free time and giving her more responsibility of how to use her time wisely. No more lazy homeschooling. I’ll have to keep on her to stay on schedule and grade everything. After this, she’ll be headed to high school and she’ll have to have mastered good study skills to handle the rigorous curriculum. I don’t want her to always be catching up from behind but to move ahead with ease and numerous opportunities available to her.

Getting Ahead with Sylvan Learning Study Skills Courses

Whew, would it be nice to have some help. I’m pretty excited to share with you the new Sylvan Study Skills courses. I realize how hard, stressful, and overwhelming it can be to get your child the education they need and, even more so, to do it alone. Many parents find that the support found in the schools is not enough to address their particular needs. Sylvan Learning realizes this too.

The Study Skills course is four weeks long and includes eight sessions. The focus is on organization and time management in which students will learn:

  • Time management
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Better organization habits
  • How to use an academic planner
  • How to properly track grades

This course is currently only $199 through September 30, 2014. That’s a $200 savings from the regular price. This is a great way to get your kids started off right for back-to-school time. This is designed for middle and high school students, grades 4th-12th.

Is this really needed? Notice this:

A recent Sylvan survey found that more than half (54 percent) of parents surveyed with children in grades four through eight stated that their child reads his or her textbook and notes over and over to study – an ineffective study habit. The same survey found that 63 percent of parents surveyed didn’t feel that they could help with all of their child’s homework.

Build Study Skills Now to Prevent Frustration Later

It can be hard to admit that there might be a problem and that intervention is needed when the child is struggling. It’s so much better to help them build skills to study well now and to give them the tools they need to succeed. I know I will be using everything I can to help my daughter (and me) have a productive school year so she enjoys learning and feels confident going onto high school. In fact, this Study Skills course may be just what she needs!

The Sylvan Study Skills course is only on sale until the end of September so don’t delay. Get the course for $199 and more details on the Study Skills website. You can also get more study tips on the Sylvan Learning Blog.

I don’t know that I’m even prepared yet! But my son is right for this, he’s almost 5 now, and Sylvan has such a good reputation for quality educational material

It’s nice to hear from someone who’s actually used Sylvan. I have always wondered if they were worth using or not.

I totally agree that it’s hard to deal with a child who is easily distracted and doesn’t try to figure things out on their own.

It’s great to get the viewpoint of somebody that has actually used Sylvan. It’s hard to just buy into the hype.

I know exactly what you mean! Our daughter required a lot of ‘nagging’ I mean encouragement 😉 to stay on task with her schooling. Making her write down her own assignments on a calendar and check them off helped us immensely.

Sounds like a neat thing for kids to get into! I have always heard about Sylvan and wondered about what they offer and how good it was!

Our son is very smart, but he is lazy and unorganized. This sounds like something that would really help him.

I thought about Sylvan for my youngest son when he was having trouble in school.

The more I think about it, the more I can see the value in a course like this.

I really need to look into this for my 12 year old who has dyslexia, he could really use the extra help.

I’ve considered Sylvan many times over the last several years for my son.

Sylvan is such a great tool for learning and they have such a great reputation for learning so I’ll be checking this out for my nephew as my son doesn’t need this.

Sylvan has been around for a long time. My youngest sister got some tutoring there many years ago.

I wish this was available to all students. What a great idea for our kiddos who need a little help!

Our oldest will enter middle school next year and she could definitely use some study skill preparation. I also want to look into some math assistance for her too.
