For the 2015 Washington Auto Show, a special “Made Across America” event was planned. This event was designed to showcase the many cars that are actually built right here in the United States. Several manufacturers chose to participate by driving one or more of their vehicles from their American-based assembly plant to the show.
So what did that have to do with me? Well, Kia asked me to join their team to drive the all-new 2016 Kia Sorento from the plant in West Point, Georgia to Washington D.C. What a memorable experience!

Before hitting the road, I met the two Kia representatives who I’d be driving with for the “Made Across America” event. After giving me a personal VIP briefing on the plant, we took a quick tour of the KMMG West Point manufacturing plant via golf cart. As it was a holiday, the plant was not in operation. Normally, this plant this runs 24 hours a day with three rotating work shifts. The Kia Optima, Kia Sorento, and Hyundai Santa Fe are produced here.
Road Trip to Washington D.C. in the 2016 Kia Sorento
The three of us jumped in the Sorento with luggage loaded up and began our long road trip. Fortunately, we all got along and the 16-hour drive (via Chesapeake Bay) over two days went by quickly. And, since the car drove so smoothly and was so comfortable, none of us were sore!

We finally made it to Washington D.C. and 2015 Washington Auto Show “Made Across America” event. The next day we endured some snow during the official press conference.

I have never driven or owned a Kia. I have to say, though, that they Sorento is gorgeous. I would definitely consider that.
My daughter and son in law just bought a Kia and love it. I love the look of the 2016 Sorrento, and it looks like you all had a great time.

This is great, I love that you were able to experience this and share with us. I have heard great things about Kia, and back when I first got my license, I wanted to buy a Kia, but never did. now, I may be seeking a Kia when on the market again!

I love Kias. I almost bought a Kia Soul. Just couldn’t get the husband on board.
