At one point, I was receiving smartphones regularly to review and keep. When the opportunity came up to receive three brand new, customized Moto X phones we thought it was a great chance to switch over to these instead of our iPhone 4S phones. Times were tough and if we could sell our iPhones (and whatever else was not being used) to get a little extra cash to put toward bills it would be great. We quickly regretted that decision, however, and suffered for another year until our contract renewed and we could get iPhones again.
Switching Smartphones & Switchers Remorse
The first generation of Moto X smartphones were actually really nice…except for the camera. No matter how many updates to the software there were, the camera delivered horrible quality photos. It got to the point where I just lost all interest and desire to take photographs since I was never happy with them. It was quite sad and my husband and daughter experienced the same.
If my stream of new phones continued to regularly rotate it wouldn’t have been such a big deal. But, for some reason, those sources dried up and we were forced to rely solely on the Moto X for all of our on-the-fly photos and those taken in situations when it was not possible to carry a full-size camera. Every time we were faced with a “Kodak moment” to embody the memories we were creating but ended up with a bland, discolored, unsharp, unappealing photo, we regretted our decision to switch from the iPhone, a device we could count on for a decent picture.
Regretted Decisions & Setting Things Straight
As soon as our 2-year contract neared, we raced to get new iPhones. We got a 5S for our daughter, a 6 for Frans, and a 6 Plus for me. Our interest in photography was renewed and we started enjoying it again. While I still review other mobile devices and many of them have excellent photo capabilities among other high-tech features, we will continue to keep our iPhones just in case 😉
So what’s with my sob story of tech regret? Well, some have been tempted to switch away from Verizon for one enticing incentive or another only to regret that REAL quick. In our area, and especially in the building complex we live in, Verizon Wireless is the only carrier that works. All other carriers have dead spots sprinkled here and there. Since we got rid of our landline years ago, we need the dependability of Verizon to run our in-home business and just to stay connected with friends, family, and each other.
