I don’t know what it is about spring. There’s something about the combination of warmer weather, the sun shining outside, and fresh air blowing through the house that makes me want to clean and organize everything. Obviously, I’m not the only one that experiences this since the term “spring cleaning” is pretty well-established. That desire to clean is not restricted to our house. Now is the perfect time for car spring cleaning and to rid your ride of the winter dirt buildup!
Car Spring Cleaning — Starting with the Fun Part
Okay, I have a confession to make. While it is true that spring is an ideal time to get your car looking its best in preparation for upcoming family travel, I had an ulterior motive in putting together this post. It was the excuse I needed to finally pick up the one item I have been wanting for years but could never justify it — a wet/dry vac. It may seem strange but I have always wanted a good wet/dry vacuum for the car! It’s such a pain to bring our house vacuum down to the garage and those cordless car vacs just don’t have the sucking power to clean the whole interior.
I jumped on the Autozone.com website to see what vacuums they carried and came across the Armor All 120-Volt Utility Vacuum. This is just what I was looking for! This vacuum had great reviews (both on this and other retail sites) and our local AutoZone just happened to have it in-stock. Yay! Well, there weren’t any on the shelf but an employee quickly checked the back and found three units. Also, it turns out that the employee has this very same model and it works really well. Definitely nice to hear someone reaffirm your choice of products! 🙂 Oh, and when we bought it, an additional portion printed out after the receipt for a $10 mail-in rebate (may not be available in all states). Score!
Car Spring Cleaning — Easy to Find Automotive Cleaning Supplies
Now that the item I really wanted was already put aside for me, it was time to see what else I could find to spruce up our car. It’s been about five months since we bought our new Hyundai Tucson and it’s starting to show. The glass is getting foggy, dust is gathering on the dash, a few spills have left sticky spots, and crumbs are accumulating in the nooks and crannies. I didn’t have to look far as aisle two was full of cleaning supplies.
There was a wide selection of top brands for glass cleaners, car wash solution, waxing supplies, leather treatment, minor scratch repair, tire dressing, microfiber cloths, and more. They even had Automotive Goo Gone! (Goo Gone is fantastic for removing sticky residue, gum, and marks but I’ve never seen it specifically for cars!) It was actually tough to get a good photo of the aisle because that was where most of the customers seemed to gather.
Though Frans was quite giddy about the electric wax buffer that we totally don’t need right now, he settled for some spray to remove bug splats, bird droppings, and sap. I made it up to him by finding this awesome accessory to better clean the front windshield. He recently bought some Stoner Invisible Glass (gets rid of that hazy film) to clean the inside of the glass but it was so hard to get into the grooves around the edge. Now he (or I) can clean it with ease using this handy dandy handle!
Car Spring Cleaning — Great Prices & Customer Service
I was really amazed how easy it was to find everything needed for some good car spring cleaning. Almost all of the supplies were in one aisle and displayed in a way that made shopping much easier. Plus, the employees were extremely helpful and friendly. They were even patient enough to help me adjust the bill. When I got to the car, it dawned on me that I didn’t use the coupon I had (the same one I told you about last month)! I can’t believe I forgot all about it!
For upcoming visits, AutoZone has another special running — get $5 off a purchase of $25 or more, valid 4/19/16 thru 5/22/16. Make sure you bookmark this and remember to show the coupon at checkout to get your discount (trying to remind myself to do the same).
So not that we’re fully stocked, we just have to buckle down and do our car spring cleaning. The sooner we get it done the longer we can enjoy a clean car before it gets dirty again on upcoming road trips!
