On Monday, August 8th, 2016, the red carpet premiere of Pete’s Dragon took place on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, CA. Well, technically, it was a green carpet premiere. With the main star being a giant green dragon, it was only fitting to have everything themed the same color.
Pete’s Dragon Premiere Party
Even the premiere party at the Roosevelt Hotel was slathered in green. Bright green lighting filled the event area as guests ate, mingled, and enjoyed family activities. Many stars brought their children to enjoy the face painting, air sprayed tattoos, BFF bracelet making, photo/video opportunities, and rainbow-etched postcards. Of course, I had to try some of these too. The virtual reality station where you could experience a ride on Elliot’s back across New Zealand was amazing!
Pete’s Dragon Green / Red Carpet Premiere
Then it was time to get our catwalk on as we strolled down the green carpet toward El Capitan Theatre.
We did our best to take photos between walking to the theater and gawking at the celebrities walking to the left of us. The theater was packed! There was plenty of smiling, crying (well, at least that’s what I did during half of the movie), clapping, and cheering throughout.
El Capitan Theatre Tour & Pete’s Dragon Premiere Opening Sequence
The whole night flew by so fast. As a bonus, our group was invited back the next day to take a tour of the El Capitan Theatre. This venue has a long history and much of it is documented in the photos on display on the upper level. When purchased by Disney, the theater was restored to its original colors and look. It has 1,000 seats, which are evenly distributed between the floor and mezzanine levels, and contains the latest audio/visual tech. Backstage, I was quite surprised by how large of an area the area is when the screen is raised. We even spent a little time with the classic Wurlitzer affectionately known as Ethel by staff.
What’s it like to see a movie at the El Capitan? The opening sequence used for the Pete’s Dragon premiere was played again so we could record it and share it with you. 🙂
The Pete’s Dragon red carpet premiere was fantastic. I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. You’ll have to tune in tomorrow to find out what I thought about it and if it’s something your family will enjoy!
Pete’s Dragon will be in theaters August 12, 2016!

I was invited on an all-expense paid media trip as a guest of Disney in honor of the Pete’s Dragon movie. All opinions are my own.
