Last week I was whisked away to Los Angeles for a very special announcement. Outside the Jimmy Kimmel Live show (which we watched from the press area near the set), on the sidewalk of Hollywood and Highland, something new was to be revealed. A small seating area had been set up for our group as roaming video cameras rolled and spotlights danced to the music.
An enthusiastic host, a YouTube star, two lumberjacks, and a cat piñata set the stage. For what, exactly, we weren’t sure as the puzzling storyline continued to make less and less sense. Finally, as a play on words lead to a “great escape,” the 2017 Ford Escape made its grand entrance.
2017 Ford Escape Reveal in Hollywood, CA
Instead of having to fight the crowds to get a good glimpse of the new CUV, our group was ushered inside the shopping center for an informal briefing of the car’s features and a better opportunity to take pictures of it.
The 2017 Ford Escape is sporting a new grill, six wheel designs, and a slew of features inside. Here’s a summary from Ford of what the new model will include:
- New Ford Escape gives SUV customers even more of what they want – additional innovative features to make their daily drive safer and easier, greater connectivity, two new EcoBoost® engines and technology that saves fuel in heavy traffic
- Escape is first Ford vehicle in the world with SYNC® Connect – customers can unlock and lock their doors, start engine, even locate vehicle through smartphone app
- Driver-assist technologies including enhanced active park assist, lane-keeping system, and adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning with brake support make driving easier and safer
- Environmentally friendly Auto Start-Stop standard with Escape’s two new EcoBoost engines – a 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter twin-scroll; technology shuts off engine in common stops so the vehicle uses no gas, improving fuel economy by 4 percent to 6 percent in stop-and-go traffic
I’m liking the new exterior design but didn’t get the chance to look inside or try the ride out. Hopefully I’ll be able to try it out soon. The 2017 Ford Escape will be available Spring 2016. Learn more about this vehicle here.
