Of the many cartoons I used to watch as a child, Voltron was one of them. Who could forget those transformation sequences of the robotic lions combining to form the Voltron?! Netflix released a new version of the show, called Voltron Legendary Defender, last summer. Munchkin and I had tons of fun watching it. Even more exciting is the fact that the second season is available starting today! We can’t wait!
Netflix Original Series — Voltron Legendary Defender
Voltron Legendary Defender is a classic story about good versus evil. Emperor Zarkon aims to expand the Galra Empire by forcefully taking over and oppressing various planets. The only hope against him is the battle robot of legend known as Voltron. The series follows the five unlikely characters chosen to be Voltron’s pilots and the princess that leads them. They must learn to work together to pilot the individual lions and to fight together as Voltron.
The storyline isn’t crazy deep but it’s solid enough to make you want to keep watching it. There’s plenty of action but it’s pretty tame (hence the TV-Y7 rating). What I love most about this show is the humor. It’s super silly at times and the crazy, exaggerated expressions are priceless. Though the original show was a Japanese anime, Voltron Legendary Defender is aimed at American audiences with relatable dialogue and pop culture references. Both kids and adults will enjoy it (we sure do). Parents should note, though, that some scenes with Zarkon and his followers might be kind of dark for younger ones.
Voltron Legendary Defender Season Two
Voltron Legendary Defender season two will be available on Netflix today, January 20th. It will pick up where season one left off.
Here’s the official summary for the next season.
Following the season one cliffhanger, Team Voltron has been scattered throughout the universe in the aftermath of a perilous battle with Zarkon, Haggar and the evil Galra Empire. Working to bring the lions back together to form Voltron again, the Paladins’ plan to defeat the Galra once and for all takes them across the universe in search of new worlds and unexpected allies. Find out if their plot to take down Zarkon succeeds when Season 2 of DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender premieres on Netflix January 20, 2017.
