I’ve had to wear glasses from when I was 10 years old. From the second row in class, I couldn’t see the chalk on the green chalkboard. I ended up getting these dorky, translucent plastic frames. I had to have blue since it was my favorite color. Thankfully, the frames for children and adults have changed and many are very stylish. But as the frames have evolved, so have the lenses.
The last time I got new glasses was when my daughter stepped on mine and broke the lens in half. That was 3-1/2 years ago and I was really due for a new prescription. Safer:
One fact that really impressed me was the durability. The material is of the same construction NASA uses on visors for astronauts. This is a big issue for me. I have about +4 in each eye so standard lenses would make my eyes look crazy with ‘coke bottle’ glasses. Not the look I’m going for. Fortunately, these are 43% lighter and 25% thinner than regular lenses – whew. This also means that my glasses are not as cumbersome since I barely realize they are on. No more sore indentations from the nose pads!
I’m really happy with my new lenses. The thickness was the same as my previous high-index lenses (they returned my original lenses as well at my request to compare). There’s no glare and my vision is very clear. It’s very reassuring to know that my eyes are protected even on very sunny days. I did not test just how durable they were by dropping them from a 30-story building or throwing some bricks on them for obvious reasons. Fortunately, Airwear took care of that with this video.
