Airwear Lenses From Essilor

by TerriAnn

I’ve had to wear glasses from when I was 10 years old. From the second row in class, I couldn’t see the chalk on the green chalkboard. I ended up getting these dorky, translucent plastic frames. I had to have blue since it was my favorite color. Thankfully, the frames for children and adults have changed and many are very stylish. But as the frames have evolved, so have the lenses.

The last time I got new glasses was when my daughter stepped on mine and broke the lens in half. That was 3-1/2 years ago and I was really due for a new prescription. Essilor has developed a new product line – Airwear. Not only are these lenses from a well-known, top-quality brand but they are lighter, safer, and greener. How so?

Safer:

One fact that really impressed me was the durability. The material is of the same construction NASA uses on visors for astronauts. That measn these lenses can withstand much higher impacts for those that play sports or are a bit ‘rough’ on their glasses. Or, if you accidentally put your glasses on the floor and your child steps on them…

With so much focus on sun protection these days, Airwear lenses give full protection from UV rays. So when wearing your glasses, you don’t have to worry about the risks associated with sun damage to your eyes.

Greener:

The makers of Airwear really took their impact on the environment seriously. In addition to only using recycled water in the manufacturing of the lenses, 100% of the production waste is also recycled.

Lighter:

This is a big issue for me. I have about +4 in each eye so standard lenses would make my eyes look crazy with ‘coke bottle’ glasses. Not the look I’m going for. Fortunately, these are 43% lighter and 25% thinner than regular lenses – whew. This also means that my glasses are not as cumbersome since I barely realize they are on. No more sore indentations from the nose pads!

I’m really happy with my new lenses. The thickness was the same as my previous high-index lenses (they returned my original lenses as well at my request to compare). There’s no glare and my vision is very clear. It’s very reassuring to know that my eyes are protected even on very sunny days. I did not test just how durable they were by dropping them from a 30-story building or throwing some bricks on them for obvious reasons. Fortunately, Airwear took care of that with this video.

So if you are in the market to get new lenses for yourself or want a superior option for your child, check out the offerings from Airwear at your local eye doctor. If you are a still a bit apprehensive, go to lightersafergreener.com to get more information and enter to win $1,000 or free lenses!

Disclosure: I was provided with free prescription lenses to facilitate this review. The opinions expressed here are 100% my honest opinion.
