It such a shame how some people can take the lives of animals so lightly. I still vividly remember the time my family and I were on a bike ride together and discovered the feral cat population now known as the Bay Cats. People used to abandon their cats there years ago, and then those cats had kittens who grew up without any human contact. Thanks to volunteers who feed the cats and the local shelter which helped to spay and neuter them, the numbers began to shrink and the cats there are healthy and happy. That is not how it always goes for stray or abandoned animals.
Cat’s Pride and Katherine Heigl Team Up
Of the 5.4 million dogs and cats put in animal shelters each year, half are adopted while the other half are euthanized. To tip those scales, Cat’s Pride and actress Katherine Heigl are teaming up. Cat’s Pride has a new formula called Fresh & Light Ultimate Care Litter. According to the official press release this litter is “50% lighter and is formulated with highly absorbent minerals and no fillers, guaranteeing 10 days of odor control, the strongest clumps and low dust and tracking.” I have never been a cat owner (I’m allergic to cats) but that all sounds pretty good to me.
For each purchase of the new Cat’s Pride Fresh & Light Ultimate Care Litter, a portion of the proceeds will go to the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation. This animal advocacy organization aims to increase awareness of the mistreatment of companion animals, move animals to no-kill shelters to find them good homes, help fund sterilization, and more. You can also find tips for caring for your own cat or a new addition on the Cat’s Pride site.

I have one and he was abandoned in the apartment complex my son lived in! Along with his mom!
He was abandoned?! How sad! Pets are should be like family and, if there are extreme cases where they can’t be cared for or taken to a family’s new home, they should at least find them a new home first. So happy you took them in 😀
I don’t have any cats….this would be for my friend….his 2 cats were both strays before he took them in.
I have 2 cats. They were stray kittens that someone dumped alongside a rural road. I have taken care of them for 2 years now.
I cannot believe that people do that, esp. with kittens 🙁 So glad you found them and gave them a good, loving home 🙂
I don’t have cats but my BFF does. She has several and they are all rescues.
I have two cats. I have adopted them from our local animal shelter
We have one cat, Fancy. She’s a tuxedo cat and we go her from our local shelter.
We’re down to two cats at the moment, after losing our senior Maine Coon, Koneko, passed unexpectedly in February (he originally found us, showing up in our back yard and never leaving – and we searched for his owner but never found them). Right now we have Moko, a petite and very sweet and loving girl who was found as a stray by a friend’s father (Moko LOVES people and dogs, but doesn’t really like other cats as she was being majorly picked on by other cats when she was without a home). Arata is actually my daughter’s cat and will eventually move with her when she moves out (no signs of that in the near future). Fawn adopted Arata from a small rescue near Indianapolis. The mother and sister of one of Fawn’s best friends fostered Arata’s pregnant mom and then the two kittens born to her. The friend’s sister adopted one and Fawn adopted the other. Arata is a high-energy stinker who we love more than words can say.
I’m so sorry about Koneko 🙁 I’ve heard that Maine Coons are like the dogs of the cat world and love people. Moko and Arata sound like sweethearts that are totally part of the family. Thank you so much for sharing your story!
I had two cats, Tiger and Lucy, when I was married, and we brought them both home from the shelter (at different times). I liked the fact we could take some time at the shelter to see if the cat bonded with us. I didn’t know Katherine Heigl was associate with this–great!
Yes, she just began this partnership with Cat’s Pride. I guess her brother was an animal lover but he died as a teen. So, she and her mom started an animal advocacy organization and now she’s helping to promote their new litter with a portion of sales going to the charity in honor of her brother.
Thanks for explaining it was her brother–I wondered about the name but she didn’t say in the vid and I wasn’t nosy enough to look it up. Great way to honor him and his love for animals.
Haha! Well, I try to do my research before I take on stories to cover AND it was in the information sheet the company provided so that helped. Plus, I was a little nosy as to the name and her connection to it 😛
I have six cats, all rescues. One was abandoned kitten at work, one came from being abandoned, two were motherless kitties on a farm that needed a home and the other was a rescue when someone left him and his mama in a park as a newborn. Love those babes!
How wonderful that you are able to provide a good home for all of those kitties! So sad that people can just leave companion animals like tossing out garbage or a toy, gadget, or clothing they’re bored with. They’re living things that need love and give WAY more back in return!
We have 2 kitties, Bowser and Princess. They aren’t adopted from a shelter, when my husband and I first got married we knew people getting rid of them. They were our first babies 🙂
Bowser and Princess! Awesome! Any more Mario-themed babies in the house now?
I have three cats that I adopted from the local SPCA. I always support the SPCA with donations, supplies and adoptions.

Hahaha! I love how each one has a unique story and that Oliver sounds like a hoot!

First, I must disclose I do not have any cats! I would love to win this for my sister and her kids! They have two cats. The first kitten they got was dropped off on the side of the road (my sister was behind the person, saw him pull over, drop it off, and then drive off. They have always been dog people, and never even owned a cat, but as she turned around to get him, she fell in love! The vet determined he was no more than 4 weeks old. The second kitten they adopted was from a pregnant momma cat that someone dropped off at a neighbors, and they fell in love with this kitten, so decided to rescue/adopt it!

I have one cat that came from a stray’s litter.
At the moment, I have 13 cats. I have a small shelter for elderly cats. Kind of like a retirement village for older people, except for cats. This is the last and most loving place they will ever know. Most have no teeth. One is on high blood pressure medicine. And so on. I love them all dearly. They get all the meds and care they need.

I have 5 cats, all rescues as kittens.. Two are sisters from one litter… two are brothers from another litter and then there is Callie, who is the eldest and she was found all by her lonesome in pretty bad shape- I guess her mother had either abandoned her or was injured herself.. they all get along with one another- we’re just one big happy family 🙂
Pretty amazing that they all get along!
I have one cat. She was free on craigslist. I was told she was found freezing during a snow storm. She was suppose to be 6 months and in good health. When I took her to the vet she was closer to 6 years and in very bad shape. She does not like anything or anyone. Where she was there were 8 other cats, 4 dogs and 3 kids. I couldn’t leave her there. She still hates most people and all animals but she loves her toys. She plays with them all day and night. Her health is getting better and she has warmed up to me a lot. I’m happy I saved her.
So sorry the people from the ad were not honest and that she had so many issues. I’m sure she’s happy you adopted her and continue to keep her despite her dislike for people and animals.

I found my cat, Remi, as a kitten. He was tiny and scared, hiding in a bucket. He was sick and could barely breathe with a severe eye infection. A few vet trips later and he runs things.
