When we adopted Speckles, we had no idea what to expect as she grew up. She was a rescue puppy and a mutt with no distinct breed lineage. As far as we knew, thanks to a vague DNA test, she was suggested to be part labrador retriever, part Australian Shepherd, and part cattle dog. Who knows how accurate those results were. That said, we didn’t know how big she would be, what tendencies she might have, or even how long her fur would get. Fortunately, she turned out way better than we could have ever expected. She’s such a sweetie! The only issue we really have an issue with is her shedding fur.
Shedding Fur — A Cumbersome Problem
Though Speckles’ fur only gets about 1-½ inches long and she doesn’t need regularly grooming, she sheds quite a bit. No matter how much we brush her or how clean we try to keep our place, there are always stray hairs floating around. It seems to get in everything too! She’s not even allowed in the kitchen but sometimes we have to double check the food to make sure nothing got in. Sometimes it even floats around gets in our mouths. By the way, totally don’t mean to gross you out…
From the carpet to clothes and from furniture to plastic surfaces, we are constantly dealing with fur. I don’t know what it is about pet fur but that stuff sticks to EVERYTHING. We have to vacuum all the time and our never-ending supply of lint rollers are always on hand. Even dusting around the house gets challenging. As soon as we wipe one layer off, another seems to form almost instantly. To counteract this problem, Clorox sent me a box of Triple Action Dust Wipes.
Shedding Fur — How to Keep the Mess Under Control
Regular rags just push the dust around and back into the air (eiuw). So, we normally use microfiber cloths when dusting. Even then, those have a hard time with hair, fur, or after accumulating just a bit of dust on them. The Dust Wipes take care of all those issues. These have a two-sided interlocking weave to attract and hold onto dust and hair. This is especially good for those who allergic to pet and house allergens (like we are).
Despite the Dust Wipes being from Clorox, they do not contain any bleach. So no worries about what surfaces you can use them on. You can even use the wipes on wood, floors, and electronics. I love the fact that these wipes come in an XL size to clean everything in one fell swoop. Also, though no tool is required, the XL Dust Wipes are even large enough to fit on a standard sweeper for some efficient floor cleaning.
Aside from keeping the dog shedding under control and cleaning regularly, there’s not much else we can do about this. Dealing with fur when you have pets is just part of caring for them. It’s a good thing she’s cute and worth the extra effort. 🙂
