Emoticon – e·mo·ti·con, noun (i-ˈmō-ti-ˌkän)
: a group of keyboard characters (as :-)) that typically represents a facial expression or suggests an attitude or emotion and that is used especially in computerized communications (as e-mail)
Hello, my name is TerriAnn and I am addicted to emoticons aka smilies. I have a hard time writing any communication without using some sort of 🙂 or 😛 or 😀 or 🙁 to conclude each sentence. I know it’s not the most professional practice but, otherwise, communication seems so dry.
There’s also the thought that some written ideas can be misinterpreted and the added punctuation can soften or add emotion to an otherwise kurt statement. There is such a thing as overdoing it (when people add one after every phrase) but one nicely placed smiley can add a new dimension to the comment. Yes, they have even crept into my casual text messages. Some may see a ^_^ as somewhat kitsch but I rather like them. What about you?

I love emoticons as well. I used to keep a small print out similar to this image next to my keyboard so that I could use different ones 🙂 I’m glad to know I’m not the only one!
Well, I never had a printout but I have a feeling I will be referring to this post now that I discovered there are more! Yay! Now we can feel free to emoticon each other all the time 😉
