When I was younger, I drank a lot of milk. By that I mean A LOT. To this day, I attribute my massive milk intake to the fact that I’ve never broken or fractured a bone in my life. That’s a pretty huge deal if you know what klutz I am.
The only bad thing about milk is that you usually have to keep it col and that it expires fairly soon after you buy it. These two reasons keep us from drinking it when on vacation or while out and about. After all, you can’t pack milk at room temperature, right? Wrong. Shelf safe milk (aka Milk Unleashed) has all the goodness of milk including calcium, A, D, B12, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, riboflavin, niacin and zinc but doesn’t need to be refrigerated until opened. No additives or preservatives are put in but careful processing and packaging keep it fresh for any time you are ready to drink it.
If you’re not sure what shelf safe milk is, no worries. I didn’t know much about it either until I saw this video:
I had no idea such careful attention was spent on creating shelf safe milk! I’ve seen single-serve milk cartons in retail shops and cafės but they were always refrigerated. It never dawned on me that they did not HAVE to be kept at that temperature all the time. Shelf safe milk can be purchased in stores and online and U.S. brands include LALA, Borden, Organic Valley, HERSHEY’S, Horizon Organic, and Cow Wow Cereal Milk.
I love the fact that these cartons don’t have to be stored in the refrigerator. On grocery days our fridge is busting at the seams, especially with items we tend to use a lot of. Now we can just keep our milk in our pantry closet and pop a carton or two to chill when we’re ready for them. It also alleviates the dreaded ‘expiration date dilemma’ in which we guzzle down several glasses of milk at one time so as not to waste it before it goes bad.
- Shelf safe milk is perfect for lunchboxes, diaper bags and purses, for on-the-go enjoyment.
- Ultra pasteurization and special Tetra Pak eco-friendly cartons keep the milk safe for families to enjoy anytime, anywhere.
- Try freezing the single serving packages the night before and drop it into your child’s lunch bag the next morning, it will be just right by lunch time.
Shelf safe milk may not be a new concept but it’s one my family may soon be taking advantage of. In addition to regular consumption, it’s a fabulous option for times when you are away from home and don’t want to turn to sugary sodas just to quench your thirst. I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for Milk Unleashed products the next time I go shopping!
