With the abundance of slick tech goodies on the market, it can be hard to decide which products are right for you or the person your shopping for. Did you know that 79% of Americans want to know more about new technologies but half are frustrated about getting access to personally try them out? I found the new Intel Technology Experience at Best Buy to be quite helpful.
The Intel Technology Experience at Best Buy
At first, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find the “zone” at our local Best Buy location in San Carlos, CA. That is until I got to it. With bright signage and catchy tunes coming from the area, you can’t miss it.
Don’t worry about bringing the kids as they’ll have plenty to play with while you shop. They can hit the DJ station with Ne-Yo’s single, watch the 3D printer do its thing, or play with the 2-in-1 computers on display.
Mars Escape Augmented Reality Game
The most popular pull is the Mars Escape setup. Mars Escape is a game app based on augmented reality.
The area features several tablets and a small model of a portion of Mars. When the tablet’s camera is aimed at the hatch on the model, a virtual world is populated and players can play using the real model as a base. It’s a bit hard to explain but the photos below will help give you a better idea of the gameplay.
I also got some of this on video. The specially trained Best Buy Blue Shirt on duty, Tim D., was kind enough to give me a quick tour of the whole section and to let me record it to share with you.

We found the Mars Rover experience to be a lot of fun. It was hard to get my husband to stop playing so we could leave the store, LOL!
Oh my gosh, this is tech heaven, I could spend hours just walking around in there!
