Decades ago, it was common to live in close, tight-knit communities. Neighbors knew each other, kids played outside with one another, and entire neighborhoods had block parties or planned events. Today, that’s not so much the case. People are busy and very few know their neighbors’ names let alone hang out with them as friends. A few weeks ago, Mountain House home developers decided to change that by sponsoring the first ever Global Food Fair.
2018 Global Food Fair in Mountain House
The Global Food Fair was held on Saturday, October 6th, at Central Park in Mountain House, CA. If you follow any of my social media channels, then you would have seen the invitation to attend. Everyone in the area was invited to join in the fun.
The purpose of the Global Food Fair was to celebrate the diversity of Mountain House residents and to foster a stronger community by allowing residents to mingle. And, what better way to get to know your neighbors than to eat and play with them?!
Not only did we have some amazingly gorgeous weather, but there was a great turnout as well. Families of all sizes, ages, and backgrounds came to the park to enjoy an exciting day out. As the afternoon went on, more and more people started to show up.
Mountain House Global Food Fair — Bite-Sized International Cuisine
Several food trucks and vendors had free bite-size samples to offer guests at the Global Food Fair. International dishes included Mexican, Chinese, Indian, Mediterranean, American, and Filipino (Philippines). Two local companies, Mazaa Kabob and Mountain House Pizza Company, also came to feed the masses. The food trucks and booths were still going strong as the event ended at 3 pm that afternoon. I’m still craving more of that lumpia (which was totally not gluten-free but worth the reaction I’d get later).
Mountain House Global Food Fair — Family Entertainment
There was plenty of seating and the live music set a lively mood. There was one little boy that couldn’t help but dance the entire time there!
Face painters and balloon artists were on hand to keep the little ones and young at heart happy. If kids still had energy to burn, the playground and water feature were only a few steps away.
Alta by Signature Homes Grand Opening
While the Global Food Fair was in full swing, the grand opening of Alta by Signature Homes was happening a few streets over in Hansen Village. Four new model homes were now open to the public to tour. These featured four different floor plans with three types of exterior designs. The Alta homes are perfect for small to medium families. Frans thought it was refreshing to see the Farmhouse-style homes. This style has so much character but isn’t commonly seen in the Bay Area.
What stood out to us was how attractive yet functional the homes were. The open floor plans made use of spacious areas but, somehow, they still gave off a cozy and comfortable feel. These were not just beautiful spaces – they were also totally livable! We noticed, too, how much attention was placed on how rooms were laid out and the quality detailed finishes. Frans and I could easily picture ourselves living in any of these homes.

The rooms were staged were in such a tasteful manner too. I had to restrain myself from filling up my camera roll with interior design ideas found in each bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, pantry, living room, hallway, laundry room, backyard, and so on. Alta by Signature Homes start at $553,076.

Whenever there is a grand opening of model homes at Mountain House, the developers make sure to plan something nice for the kids as well. A craft station was set up at the Welcome Center, this time with sparkly mosaics based on an autumn theme. It was a pretty quiet day in the kids’ crafts area but what can you do when there’s free food, music, and face painting going on at the Global Food Fair just a few minutes away?!
Mountain House is a thriving community and continues to be “the” spot for families looking to set down their roots. New homes are being built all the time and fantastic community-building events are regularly on the agenda. The Global Food Fair was a huge success too! Young and old attendees, and from various ethnic backgrounds, had a blast getting together to mingle during a light-hearted afternoon to at Central Park. I’m looking forward to the next one!
So, when you are ready to start house hunting, don’t forget to check out the offerings in Mountain House. You won’t only be getting a new house, but you’ll finally find a place to call home with a friendly and diverse community.
