Remember how I mentioned that these old eyes have a hard time with the smaller screen of the standard-size New Nintendo 3DS? Well, imagine how excited I was when a New Nintendo 3DS XL Galaxy Style system showed up on my doorstep! It’s so pretty! Plus, it features larger screens and the size feels so much better in adult-size hands. You can bet that I set that baby up right away! Of course, I made sure I added my Nintendo Network ID (NNID) info too.
Nintendo Network is Nintendo’s online service for 3DS and Wii U. Setting up a free account on your system, known as a Nintendo Network ID, gives access to games, demos, discounts, and more. The same ID allows you to use the same Nintendo eShop wallet on your 3DS and Wii U. You can even watch content from YouTube, Netflix, Hulu Plus (you need to have a paid subscription to watch the latter two) on the Nintendo 3DS. If you have additional 3DS units, you will have to create a new Nintendo Network ID on each.
How to Set Up a Nintendo Network ID
If you received a New Nintendo 3DS recently, you’ll definitely want add in your Nintendo Network ID in ASAP. Not quite sure how to set one up? Here are simple but clear step-by-step instructions of how to do this. It looks like a lot but it’s basically just filling in the information and going to the next screen. If the 3DS is for a child, it’s best if the parent or legal guardian creates the Nintendo Network ID.
- From the Home menu, select System Settings.
- Tap Nintendo Network ID Settings and OK.
- Read the information then tap Next.
- Tap Create a New ID and Next.
- Create Mii if you do not have one yet.
- Read the information and tap Understood.
- Choose your preferred language.
- Read the agreement and tap I Accept.
- Fill out a Birthdate, Gender, Country, Region, and Time Zone.
- Go to Nintendo Network ID and tap OK.
- Enter a unique name as your Nintendo Network ID.
- Choose a password for your account.
- Re-enter the same password.
- Add your email address.
- Re-enter the same email address.
- Tap Done, verify your information, then tap Link.
Nintendo Network ID, Nintendo Account, and My Nintendo
Once you have a Nintendo Network ID, you can connect that to your Nintendo account to become a My Nintendo member. Doing so will score you even more savings. Okay, did that confuse you a bit?
