The first live musical I remember attending was “Phantom of the Opera” when it was on tour in Los Angeles, CA many years ago (I was probably around 13 or so). It was such an amazing performance with elaborate sets, gorgeous costumes, stunning effects, and the music and singing made such a lasting impression on me. Fast forward some 17 years later and I get to introduce my daughter to her first live performance.
We got tickets to the Saturday matinee showing of “Crazy for You,” featuring music from Gershwin. It was performed by fantastically talented actors and was a Broadway-quality production. She loved it! The dance choreography was fun and clever and to this day she’ll still sing “I’ve Got Rhythm” every now and then.
In the past three years, we’ve had a chance to attend several similar performances, the most recent of which was “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”. Due to this, she now has such a great appreciation for music, acting, and the wonderful world created on stage. One day I would love to actually take her to see an actual Broadway show in New York City. So, if you find any good deals on some Lion King tickets, let me know!
If you ever get the opportunity, take your child to see a live show/play/musical at the theatre. It’s so different than just watching a television show or a pre-recorded, edited movie. Teaching them to love the theatre is like giving them a gift that will last and grow for a lifetime.

Love Gershwin. This sounds like a fun show!
Oh, it was great! It was so fun and had all of us humming afterwards. I don’t know how popular the story is to go on tour or be put on by another great troupe but I would love to see it again!
I have only been to one play at our local theater and it was years ago but I do remember how much I loved it! I’ve actually been thinking about taking my daughter to see one, it would be a fun mother daughter night out, maybe for Mother’s Day I’ll get us tickets!
That’d be a great day/night outing! We have some local places that do Broadway-quality shows so maybe you can find something similar in your area.
