Even though I grew up in California, I had never been to the state fair. My family finally reached Sacramento after a little detour to the Alameda Art & Wine Faire and 1 hour, 40 minutes of driving. We checked in our stuff at our hotel and went straight to the California State Fair. I was able to get media credentials for my husband and myself. This was so awesome! We got to park in a special lot (free) that was about 50 feet from entering the park and no line. They even gave us a bunch of freebies and my daughter was allowed in free as well. We could also use the passes multiple days.
The Cal Expo Fairgrounds are huge and we had no idea what to do or where to go. So, the first thing we did was go on the Monorail. We got a chance to see all the highlights of the park and could then plan out our day accordingly. After we got off and applied more sunscreen (it gets HOT in Sacramento) we got a chance to see the Spanish singing robot on a moped. That was pretty cool and my daughter kept asking what he was saying only to conclude that he must have been singing the “Macarena”.
Wow, we did so much! We watched dancing horses, ate chocolate-dipped soft-serve yogurts, watched some wanna-be idols perform on stage, played a ping-pong ball toss, and milked some goats.
Since my daughter read two books and recorded mini-book reports for the fair’s Read to Ride, she got two free ride tickets. There were a ton of rides and she decided to ride the roller coaster. This was one of the highlights for my daughter as she had such a great time with her papa on this ride.
We went out of the fairgrounds, grabbed some food from Boston Market, then went back to watch the 5-minute firework show. We were exhausted from the trip and the full day of fun. We headed back to the hotel for some shut-eye.
