As I was thinking about this sponsored post, it reminded me about how our complex recently had staff going to each apartment and checking the smoke alarms. As you know, it’s good practice to annually test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. It’s vital that they are in top working order and that the batteries have plenty of juice should the alarm need to be sounded. That way, in case something happens at home, you have as much time as possible to put out any fire or evacuate your family. When danger is detected, there might only be a short window of time to prevent an incident that could result in injuries and damage. What happens when you are not at home though?
When a Smoke Alarm is Not Enough
Maybe you go out for dinner with the kids but the pets are still in the house. They have no way of letting you know of any danger and likely have no way of getting out if needed.
Perhaps you’re out of state visiting family but an electrical spark is triggered from the lamp you forgot to unplug. Even if you get a notice of some sort, you’re too physically far away to do anything about it. Check out these sobering statistics:
- In 2013, there were 369,500 home fires in the U.S. (National Fire Protection Association)
- 500,000 pets are affected by house fires each year, 40,000 of which are killed. (U.S. Fire Administration).
- More house fires happen in winter than any other time of the year (U.S. Fire Administration)
To protect our furry family members, our homes, and the precious things we keep there, something else is obviously needed. That’s where Leeo comes in. The compact device plugs into an outlet and will send an alert to your phone if your smoke/carbon monoxide alarm sounds.
How Leeo Smart Alert Works
When an alarm goes off, Smart Alert sends you a push notification and calls you. It plays a 5-second clip of the alarm’s sound and gives you the option to dismiss the alert or call emergency responders. If you’re not available, a list of emergency contacts can be added in the app. You can choose as many contacts as you’d like and change the order of who to contact first. These people do not have to have the app but they do need to confirm a request to be added, which will be sent to them via email.
Set up of Leeo is painless and the free mobile app quickly walks you through the process. Frans loves the clean layout of the app, how responsive it is, and the ease of navigation. There is a notice to “train” your device to listen to your alarm but you have an option of skipping it for later. I highly recommend that you complete this step as soon as possible. The device will not recognize your alarm just out of the box. You actually need to program the sound of your alarm in the device or it will not pick it up in case of an emergency.
Leeo has another feature that, to me, is a seriously cool perk—the device doubles as a slick nightlight! From the mobile app, you can dim the light to your preferred level and set it to any of the 16 million colors combination (not all at once though). The nightlight portion goes on automatically when it’s dark and off when it’s not. It’s so pretty 🙂
How Much Does Leeo Smart Alert Cost?
Leeo is normally priced at $99.99. But buy it soon and you’ll get a deal! Enter code “safehome25” at checkout for 25% off and free shipping until 1/31/16. Get your Leeo here!
There is no monthly fee and only one device is needed unless you have a ginormous home, in which case you might want to get another. The device includes a temperature sensor as well as a humidity sensor. This is great if you need to turn on a fan for Fido or to prevent any unwanted mold buildup (not that any mold buildup is wanted). For more information about the device and the service, visit Leeo.com.
Safety is a top priority for every family and in any emergency immediate action needs to be taken to minimize harm and damage. In your absence, Leeo can keep an “ear” out at home and help track you down in case the smoke and/or carbon monoxide alarm is triggered. While there are other features, this is the one that makes Leeo an essential device to have to any home.

dependability
I’m looking forward the alarm that works
I look for something that is reliable, and well made.
I have always wanted something like this! Anybody who has pets at home could get a little piece of mind from this. I must get one!
I look for something that is dependable, but as the technology gets better, I would look for something that I can also use while I am not at home, just like this! I love that there is an app and I can control it even when I am away from home!
I like ones that aren’t super sensitive. It’s horrible to have one batch of burnt toast set off the alarm. Yet I want something that is definitely going to work.
I am a renter and there for I have never purchased one since they are already installed. But I would want one that is reliable.
I look at quality and reliability when making a purchase.
I want one that has easy to change batteries, and that will wake us up if there is a fire while we are sleeping.
I look for something that is loud enough to reach all of the bedrooms in our house.
This is really cool, my husband & I so want to try this. Great new technology!!!
I look to make sure that it has a good blinking light to make sure that it is working and that it has a carbon monoxide detector with the smoke alarm
I could use one of these. Nice review.

I look for something that will work well, but to be honest I’ve never thought of a smart alert like Leeo. That sounds great, because it’s up to date with technology and can inform me via the app of any issues there might be at my home. My pets stay home alone while I work, so this would also be beneficial. And the nightlight sounds great too!
