After the first Madagascar movie I would always hear, “I like to move it, move it, I like to move it!” Then the sequel came out and my daughter would sing, “I like them big, I like them chunky. I like them big, I like them plumpy.” Yes, the Madagascar franchise has really made an impact. It’s not just the songs but the characters that grow on you. Among the most interesting are the spy-savvy penguins.
The Penguins of Madagascar was quickly become a hit on Nickelodeon. This new series cover the various antics of the four clever penguins (Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private) and their life in the Manhattan Zoo. King Julien and his two followers join in, as well as their new river otter friend Marlene. Now you can get 16 hilarious episodes on DVD.
“Happy Julien Day” is mostly about King Julien and his craziness. Many of these episodes were funny as King Julien is a ‘nut’ and just trying to make sense of his strangeness is enjoyable. Some episodes featuring him can get a little questionable in the sense of innuendo and ‘potty’ jokes though.
“New to the Zoo” takes you through the zoo to meet a different character in each episodes. My daughter’s favorite episode was ‘Skorca!’ While these episodes provide a lot of exciting and enjoyable moments, there is a lot of slap-stick violence reminiscent of Three Stooges and the plethora of weapons may take it out of the ‘innocent’ category.
Each DVD contains 8 episodes from the Penguins of Madagascar series, about 88 minutes each. They were released on August 10, 2010 and retail at $19.99. If you are a fan of the series, make sure to add these to your library.
Disclosure: I was provided with two DVDs by m80 at no cost in order to test the product. The review presented here is 100% my honest opinion.

I love the penguins! I’m an adult, but there’s something about the penguins that just crack me up. I think it’s the way they move and how paranoid they can be sometimes. lol! I’ve seen them on tv in the mornings. We even watched the Christmas edition on Christmas day at my dad’s house. We’re really into Christmas cartoons. =p I think it’s funny. I’d watch this with my family for fun.
I love the Madagascar movies, particularly the Penguins . There’s oodles of Penguin based comedy at http://comedy.nauts.co.uk/.
