When I think of beauty spas, it reminds me of the movie ‘Legally Blonde’ when one actor says to Elle, “Isn’t that, like, your mothership?”
Massages, facials, mani/pedi, wraps, and the like have never been a part of my vocabulary. I have always been a somewhat simple person and never got into the whole ‘pampering’ scene.
If people ever commented on the french manicure on my natural fingernails or the flower with gem design on my toes I could always respond with, “I did it myself”. Aside from going to get a haircut and an occasional highlight at the salon, I didn’t see the need to spend so much money on such things.
That changed this past year. With group-buying sites quickly gaining popularity, it was a great time to just try it out. 2010 became a year of firsts for me with my first mani/pedi, my first massage, my first facial, and my first body wrap. Plus, there’s something about being over 30 that makes you feel old and I needed a pick-me-up. If you know a woman, especially a mother, between 31 and 45 years old, spa gift certificates are the perfect present!
So I finally had my first manicure and pedicure (mani/pedi). The red polish was enhanced with a sparkling red polish and, I must say, I really though my toes looked nice (I usually hate my toes). The manicure was okay but when I accidentally hit my nail on the top of the dryer, the lady got really irritated with me. I did go to a second place for a manicure on a special mother-daughter day and that went much better.
During the massage and facial, I was too busy trying to interview them for a blog post that I didn’t get the full experience. I’m a little bummed but this just gives me more incentive to look for some cheap spa breaks this summer. I would love to couple that with a romantic weekend with my hubby in either Carmel, CA or Calistoga, CA.
Quick beauty treatments are for the young and single. Being a busy mother, what I really need is a whole day or two to just relax and feel pampered with some quality ‘me’ time.
What do you do to recharge from juggling the kids, the house, the chores, work, etc.?
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, which contains 100% my honest opinion.

I love all things beauty and like Elle in Legally Blonde the spa is my mothership ofcourse since becoming a mom I get to visit her less often and so I really try to get in and pamper myself when ever I can, even if it is for a short while.
Haha, glad you didn’t get offended by the reference 🙂 Keep checking those deal sites though as they have some fab deals half-off or more!
I love getting pampered, but have neither the money or the time any more. I even tried the acrylic nails route (jump-started by being my sister’s matron of honor), but it was expensive and awkward. I do love a gift certificate for a facial or a massage, though. It’s been far too long.
I hear ya! French manicures are pretty easy to do yourself- just use those sticker guides to paint the tip. At this point, though, I’d just be happy to finally get back to the hair salon.
mmmm, thanks for the reminder that I neeeeeeed a spa day! But on the average day, I try to recharge with a good cup of coffee and 5 minutes alone 😉
