Printable War Horse Lesson Plans…
War Horse is a drama directed by Steven Spielburg. It’s set before and after World War I and focuses on the special relationship between a boy and his horse. The movie, War Horse, is obviously a historical fiction movie but how can you make use of that with your 8th to 12th grader? Scholastic released some interesting War Horse lesson plans to be used in the classroom and at home. My daughter is a bit young for these prompts but for those of you wanting to use War Horse as a teaching tool, this is a great resource.
The lesson plans are divided into three separate lessons, each with teacher instruction and student printable included.
- Eyewitness to History
Students analyze a historical period from different points of view.- Dramatizing History
Students dramatize a scene from a work of historical fiction.- Student Take-Home
Activities for students to complete at home.
These are fantastic lesson ideas so I hope you find them useful! Due to the heavy subject matter, you may want to preview the film before showing it to your children and/or students. I have not yet seen it but I’ve heard many positive reviews on it. If you have other educational suggestions you’d like me to share relating this topic, feel free to leave a comment below.

There is also curriculum specifically created for jr/senior high homeschoolers: http://www.homeschoolmovieclub.com/curriculum-1/war-horse
Thought you would enjoy that…
Fantastic! Every child/person responds differently to certain activities so the more curriculum we have to choose from, the better. Thanks!
