Frans had been talking about visiting Mono Lake and Mono County for ages. We finally decided to take the plunge and plan a family road trip there. But, since there were so many hot spots to check out, we wanted to spend a few days in the area. The Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes, CA ended up being our home base during our family vacay.
Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes, CA — Property
The Westin Monache Resort is a 4-star property in the heart of Mammoth Lakes. The resort is easy to get to and the staff is friendly. Every time we needed anything, an employee brought it to our room within minutes. The hotel is smoke-free and pet-friendly (no additional fee). They can even provide you with a dog bed and water/food bowls.
Underground parking is included in the $25 resort fee per night. It is just steps from the Village at Mammoth shopping center and gondolas (these weren’t running during our visit). Mono Lake was only a half-hour north while Devil’s Postpile was about a half-hour west. Other must-see destinations were equally close.
Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes, CA — Rooms
We stayed in a one-bedroom suite that faced the village. The king bed was super comfortable and it had thick, heavy blankets (can’t sleep with those thin ones). The nice thing was that there were several power outlets found throughout the room. For those that want to unpack a bit, especially if you plan to stay three or more nights, there was plenty of drawer space too.
Munchkin slept on the sofa bed in the living room. She was comfortable but we did need to request more blankets for her. We used the gas fireplace a few times so it was nice and cozy for the three of us (four if you count our dog, Speckles).
Our place included a kitchenette and dining area. Since dining is more expensive in this tourist town, being able to cook a few meals ourselves helped save a ton. Dish soap and dishwashing detergent are stocked below the counter. So, we had no problem using the provided dishes and silverware (total germaphobes here).
The bathroom connected to the bedroom as well as the entry hallway. The shower had good pressure and it was nice with the full mirror. One drawback was the extreme lack of counter or shelf space. It was not easy for three people to get ready in the bathroom at the same time!
Westin Monache Resort — Central Destination, Comfortable Stay
We had a great stay at the Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes, CA. The rooms were clean, service was good, and dogs are welcome. Plus, the property is in the perfect spot for all things in Mono County and is near all basic conveniences. I’d love to try staying here once the winter months roll around and it’s time for some serious snow play!
My family and I received complimentary one night and two more nights at a reduced media rate. All opinions are my own.
